At Wildman Harrold, we believe
that embracing diversity creates
a more positive professional environment,
improves the delivery of legal services
and provides an enhanced and enriched
work experience for all personnel.
It is our commitment to foster a
work environment that ensures equal
opportunity and embraces diversity
at every level.
Our Diversity Action Plan is a
comprehensive plan to promote diversity
and inclusion at Wildman Harrold.
It is designed to achieve positive
change within our organization,
and includes action steps that will
enable the firm to align more closely
its culture, policies, and actions
with its Diversity Initiative.
Background - A History of Diversity
Our firm's culture has welcomed
diversity since its founding in
1967. This is evidenced by the attorneys
and staff of different backgrounds,
ethnicities, races, religions and
philosophies who have populated
the firm over the years. We define
"Diversity" to mean the differences
and similarities in culture, background
and experiences that all people
bring to their workplace, including
for example, age, race, ethnicity,
gender, education, culture, religion,
disabilities, family status, socio-economic
background, sexual orientation,
and job responsibilities.
The Diversity Initiative
Despite our commitment to diversity
and our various diversity efforts
over the years, we believe we must
become more proactive, in particular
with regard to the representation
of minority attorneys generally,
and women attorneys at senior levels
in the firm. We want to insure that
our firm not only reflects our values,
but also mirrors the diverse workforces
of our client organizations, where
the number of female and minority
general counsels and staff attorneys
continues to multiply.
In 1999, the firm's leadership
established a Diversity Committee
to guide the firm in meeting the
diversity challenges in the current
legal marketplace. The Diversity
Committee, which is comprised of
16 partners, associates, and staff
members, developed and published
a Diversity Initiative as its first
action.
The goals of the Diversity Initiative
are:
- to recruit and maintain a broadly diverse group of professionals at all levels of the firm (partner, associate, legal assistant and staff);
- to provide greater service to a more diverse client base;
- to educate all personnel at the firm on issues of diversity;
- to improve the work experience for all;
- to provide a diverse work environment sensitive to issues facing all professionals and staff and provide the support, mentoring and accountability to ensure that our Diversity Initiative is effective and successful; and
- to promote fairness, equal opportunity and community service among all professionals and staff.
